PXG 0211 Driver Review

PXG 0211 Driver Review

The PXG 0211 was first released in 2019 before being upgraded in 2021 and again in 2022. It has a relatively low price tag of $299 which is not just unusual for major manufacturers, it’s also out-of-place for PXG who have previously focused on creating premium clubs at premium prices.

This move by PXG founder and billionaire Bob Parsons is a hugely welcomed one. Instead of lowering the quality of their clubs, PXG has cut their margins “to the bone”. In other words, the 0211 is designed to compete with drivers from the likes of TaylorMade, Callaway, Ping and Titleist, drivers that can cost up to $600 more!

Most manufacturers launch a range of drivers at the same time. For instance, the Callaway Rogue ST series contains the Max, Max D, Max LS and the Triple Diamond LS. PXG has gone it alone with just the 0211. There is a slight caveat here in that they have also released a 0211 Z driver, but this is not available for individual purchase and can only be bought as part of a wood or 10-piece full bag set.

PXG 0211 Drivers – What You Should Know

PXG 0211

The PXG 0211 plays in the forgiveness category with PXG promising such benefits as the driver being “confidence inspiring”, “easy to hit” and very forgiving. The driver comes in three different lofts, 9, 10.5 and 12. It also features multiple shaft options.

PXG offers a complementary spec check at one of their fitting hubs within 1 year of purchase, a superb service that helps to elevate the club’s premium feel.

PXG 0211 Z

As mentioned, the PXG 0211 Z can only be purchased as part of a wood or 10-piece full bag set. With the slogan “Calling all beginner and occasional golfers”, it’s clear who they are targeted at.

The driver is designed for golfers with lower swing speeds and gives both distance and loft off the tee with the idea of making the game more fun. Whereas traditionally drivers come in lofts between 9 and 12, the PXG 0211 Z comes in a whopping 16 degrees. This is even more lofted than a standard 15-degree 3-wood.

The driver has been lauded for its appearance and performance and should be considered by all occasional and beginner golfers.

Who Should Play the PXG 0211 Driver?

Price-conscious golfers are going to love the PXG 0211. Beyond the price, anyone looking for a more forgiving driver and seeking to hit more fairways will find the PXG 0211 to their liking.

While it can be difficult to suggest handicap ranges for clubs since games and swings vary from player to player, the PXG 0211 will suit anyone with a mid to high handicap. Some lower handicaps may also benefit but there are better options in the market for such players.

What Makes the PXG 0211 Great?

The price is one of the biggest factors behind the PXG 0211’s appeal. Available for $299, the driver costs just a fraction of some other big-named drivers and could result in a saving of over $600.

In terms of technology, the driver features a high-speed face made from a high-strength Ti412 titanium alloy to help generate ultra-fast ball speeds.

A variable thickness face helps to reduce mass and not only supports maximum ball speeds but also increases durability.

Robotic Polishing ensures all clubs are built to “design specs that maximize performance and impart corrective launch and spin for ideal ball flight on off-center shots”.

A High Modal Frequency Design helps PXG create the ideal sound and feel at impact.

Mass has been moved low and towards the back of the clubhead to produce a low and deep center of gravity (CG). This promotes a higher launch combined with lower spin for more distance.

The crown is made from titanium with a carbon fiber center. This allows for a higher MOI and therefore more forgiveness.

PXG 0211 Driver Review

Looks

This club looks amazing. It is very striking and has a traditional look. The blacked-out head is beautiful and the minimalistic crown is superb. This marks a significant improvement from the 2021 version where the crown featured a two-toned grey/black color scheme and a cavity shaped like a quadrilateral.

It is easily one of the best-looking drivers of 2022.

Adjustment

The PXG 0211’s loft can be adjusted by 1.5 degrees higher or lower. Depending on the stock loft, the driver can go as low as 8 degrees and as high as 13.5 degrees.

Distance

PXG has made huge improvements when it comes to the length of the 0211. Compared to the previous version they have managed to increase the ball speed by 1.7 mph, increase the overall length by 4.9 yards and reduce the spin by 149 RPM.

Accuracy and Forgiveness

Given the high MOI of the club, it is designed to be forgiving. Golfers will find it easy to hit and should help them find a few more greens. While the 0211 falls short of being as forgiving as a Ping G425 Max, it still holds its own in the category. Heel and toe strikes were easy to detect to the feedback from this PXG club.

Technology

It appears that the honeycomb TPE insert featured in the PXG 2021 0211 driver has been removed in this latest version.

PXG 0211 Driver Shaft Options

PXG has a great selection of flexes, Ladies all the way up to Extra Stiff, while the length can also be altered. They also have a large number of shaft types to choose from. A small point of contention is the layout when selecting these shafts on the website which could do with some improvement. Even so, PXG has all the options any golfer needs.

PXG 0211 Driver Verdict

For the price, the PXG 0211 is fantastic. This truly is a driver that can compete with the best and most expensive clubs on the market today. It performs well and looks even better. The 0211 will no doubt turn a lot of heads and expect to see it replace a few of the bigger, more mainstream brands in golfers’ bags.

Clubs of this quality don’t come around at this price point very often so if you’re thinking of buying a new driver you should certainly test out the PXG 0211. It’s good to see that high-quality golf clubs can still be manufactured at a price that is substantially lower than many of the most famous brands in golf.
